It's all contact today as the 1300cc Stock Cars and the Superbangers play alongside the 2l Bangers and the second Caravan race of the year! It's been all go with the 1300cc Stocks of late with a number of rivalries and plenty of good, solid action both here and on their visits away. While Ian Beaumont currently leads the points, he doesn't have a convincing lead with Danny Wade making efforts to catch up between his own visits to the circuit in banger guise and, trophy to trophy, you can never be sure who is likely to lift the next one as we saw in our last Stock meeting a few weeks ago when Joey Palmer left the comfort of the water wagon to lift a heat trophy while the other trophies were claimed by the power of the Duck, Jack Tuffen putting in a solid performance behind Ian in all races. Things were also a little heated in the last Superbanger meeting we had, though perhaps that was for a different reason as some drivers received a timely reminder of the contact credentials of this formula. Still, another win for Steve Davies in that one. Could this be a return to the glory days of old? Perhaps old Captain Condom will enlighten us today, though that may depend on the likes of Mark Riches or Brian Jarvis, who both appear to be having a good year this year, or perhaps a returning old boy such as Lee West who took the final trophy at our last. We had a Caravan meeting back at the start of the season, all the way back in April with a win for Kieran Francis with such awards as Phil Smith as the Destruction Derby winner, Mark Dopson with the best van (complete with balloons!), Colin Burnham as the last runner and Billy Standing getting the best wrecked but the biggest highlight for me was seeing so many vans getting what so many of them truly deserve! While we shall have the normal banger fare today, it will be all about seeing this race at the end of the meeting and what our banger folk can make of these two wheeled rolling chicanes and roadblocks! Plywood and fibreglass will fly and, no doubt, a few cars will fly too as the debris adds extra obstacles for the drivers. Hey, Jezza! This is how you kill a van! Meanwhile, if you are between 2 and 11 years old, or if you are a parent of someone like that, and you have a go-kart of some description, have you considered taking part in this year's Pedal Banger Grand Prix? It takes place during the August Bank Holiday Monday meeting, and applications can be found at Race Control, ground level. Just see the starter, the mighty conquering Sharon, between races. Next week: Actually, this one's a bit new, sort of, as we run the Essex Championship for National Bangers while the Group A Hot Rods put in an appearance for the annual Millennium Shield meeting and we also have Ministox. That all starts at 2pm next Sunday.
